Full-Circle Trade Returns Porzingis to Dallas

New York Knicks Trade Porzingis Back to Dallas Mavericks

Kristaps Porzingis is headed back to the Dallas Mavericks in a trade that sends the 7-foot-3 Latvian forward back to the team that drafted him with the fourth overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft. Porzingis had been with the New York Knicks since 2019 when he was traded from the Mavericks for Dennis Smith Jr., DeAndre Jordan, and two future first-round picks.

Porzingis's Turbulent Five-Year Journey

Porzingis's five years since leaving Dallas have been turbulent, to say the least. He missed the entire 2018-19 season with a torn ACL and has been plagued by injuries ever since. He has also had off-court issues, including a domestic violence allegation in 2021.

Porzingis's Wish Granted with Mavs Return

Despite his struggles, Porzingis has remained a talented player when healthy. He is a skilled scorer and rebounder with a good shot-blocking ability. The Mavericks are hoping that he can regain his old form and help them contend for a championship.

Knicks Move On from Porzingis

The Knicks, meanwhile, are moving on from Porzingis after five years of ups and downs. They are reportedly receiving a package of players and picks in return for Porzingis, including Spencer Dinwiddie, Dorian Finney-Smith, a first-round pick, and two second-round picks.
